Join our 6-day guided South Japan Express Tour to see southern Japan by coach! Visit beautiful places in Himeji, Kurashiki, Hiroshima, Matsuyama, and Takamatsu in Shikoku.
Have your own adventure with your English-speaking guide in the less-traveled south Japan with this tour. Firstly, from Osaka, travel to Himeji to visit one of Japan’s largest and most impressive castles. After, explore Okayama and relax in Korakuen, one of Japan’s most renowned Japanese-style gardens. Before moving onwards to Hiroshima, take some time to relax in Kurashiki, where you can enjoy its picturesque historical area with its canal. After, wander through Miyajima and the Itsukushima Shrine with its famous torii gate. The tour will then move onwards to Shikoku, Japan’s 4th largest island. Marvel at Dogo Onsen in Matsuyama, said to be the inspiration for Miyazaki’s popular animated film “Spirited Away”. Finally, finish the tour in Osaka after traveling through Takamatsu, Naruto in Tokushima, and Kobe.

Day 1 : Thursday: Osaka
You will receive tour information at your hotel.
Stay overnight at a hotel in Osaka.
Day 2 : Friday: Osaka - Okayama
After breakfast, leave by coach for Himeji, and visit one of Japan’s largest and most impressive castles from the era of the Samurai warlords. Continue to Mt. Shosha, and take the cable car up to the Engyoji temple, a complex over 1,000 years old, where the film “The Last Samurai” was shot. Lunch included at a local restaurant.
Travel onwards to Okayama and its famous traditional Japanese garden, Korakuen, with its lakes, waterfalls and traditional teahouses. Stay overnight at Okayama.
Day 3 : Saturday: Okayama - Hiroshima
After breakfast, leave for Kurashiki by coach. Take a leisurely stroll around the well-preserved historic area and sit by the canal. Continue onto Hiroshima, which is sadly known for the atomic bomb dropped in 1945.
The tour will visit the Peace Park, Memorial and the Museum before a ferry will be taken to nearby Miyajima Island. Don’t forget to look out for the shrine of Itsukushima next to the water where its picturesque torii gate seems to float at high tide.
Return to Hiroshima and have dinner at the hotel.
Stay overnight at Hiroshima.
Day 4 : Sunday: Hiroshima - Matsuyama
Today take the ferry to Shikoku, Japan’s 4th main island, on a 2.5-hour crossing of Japan’s “Inland Sea” that is dotted with small islands. In Matsuyama, take the cablecar up to its impressive castle. Afterwards, visit Ishiteji, a beautiful Buddhist temple, and a place of pilgrimage. Lunch is included. In the late afternoon, visit Dogo Onsen, and its traditional Japanese bathhouse of the 19th century which is said to have served as inspiration for Miyazaki’s popular animated film “Spirited Away”.
Overnight in Matsuyama.
Day 5 : Monday: Matsuyama - Kobe
After breakfast depart to Kotohira, a Shinto shrine on Mt.Zozu and reached by climbing 785 steps. Continue to Takamatsu to visit the pretty traditional garden of Ritsurin. Lunch is included.
At Naruto, cross an impressive bridge over the sea, stopping on the way to admire the construction and walk on its glass floor, with the sea 45 metres below. Journey to Kobe on the Honshu-Shikoku Bridge Project, crossing long bridges between islands such as the Akashi Kaikyo Bridge.
Overnight in Kobe.
Day 6 : Tuesday: Kobe - Osaka
In Kobe, visit the Earthquake Memorial Museum which shows the earthquake’s devastation in 1995 and the subsequent reconstruction in the city Continue to Osaka, where the tour ends.
