This coach tour will be operated regularly during 2018/19 (departure day from Osaka: Thursday). Join this group tour to travel south from Osaka and visit Kurashiki, Hiroshima and the island of Shikoku, returning to Osaka. Group tour by coach with English-speaking guide throughout.

Day 1 : Thursday: Osaka

Overnight at hotel in Osaka.
Day 2 : Friday: Osaka - Okayama
After breakfast, leave by coach for Himeji, and one of Japan’s largest and most impressive castles from the era of the Samurai warlords. Continue to Mt.Shosha, and take the cable car up to the Engyoji temple complex over 1,000 years old, where the film “The Last Samurai” was shot. Lunch included at a local restuarant. Then on to Okayama and its famous traditional Japanese garden, Korakuen, with its lakes, waterfalls and traditional teahouses.
Stay overnight at Okayama.
Day 3 : Saturday: Okayama - Hiroshima
After breakfast, leave for Kurashiki, and take stroll around the well-preserved historic centre. Then on to Hiroshima, sadly known for the atomic bomb dropped in 1945 which levelled the city. After visiting the Peace Park, Memorial and Museum, continue to nearby Miyajima and take the short ferry ride to the island, and the shrine of Itsukushima next to the water, its picturesque torii gate seeming to float at high tide.
Return to Hiroshima, dinner at the hotel.
Stay overnight at Hiroshima.
Day 4 : Sunday: Hiroshima - Matsuyama
Today take the ferry to Shikoku, Japan’s 4th main island, on a 2.5-hour crossing of Japan’s “Inland Sea” dotted with small islands. In Matsuyama, take the cablecar up to its impressive castle. Afterwards, visit Ishiteji, a beautiful Buddhist temple and place of pilgrimage. Lunch included. In the late afternoon, visit Dogo Onsen, and its traditional Japanese bathhouse of the 19th century which is said to have served as inspiration for Miyazaki’s popular animated film “Spirited Away”.
Overnight in Matsuyama.
Day 5 : Monday: Matsuyama - Kobe
After breakfast depart to Kotohira, a Shinto shrine on Mt.Zozu and reached by climbing 785 steps. Continue to Takamatsu to visit the pretty traditional garden of Ritsurin. Lunch included. At Naruto, cross an impressive bridge over the sea, stopping on the way to admire the construction and walk on its glass floor, with the sea 45 metres below. The road back to Japan’s mainland crosses long bridges between islands.
Overnight in Kobe.
Day 6 : Tuesday: Kobe - Osaka
Kobe suffered a major earthquake in 1995: visit the Earthquake Memorial Museum which shows the earthquakes devastation and the subsequent reconstruction in the city. Continue to Osaka, where the circuit ends.
