Join this group tour to Japan’s Inland Sea and the Setouchi region, and discover the real Japan “off the beaten track”. Travel from Osaka to historic Himeji and Okayama, then visit Naoshima, well known for its modern art. Spend the night on Osaki Kamijima Island in a traditional ryokan. Take in Hiroshima and Kyoto before ending the tour at Osaka.

This JTB group tour operates throughout March – November 2019, offering the chance to explore off-the-beaten track areas of Japan in a cost-effective way, by joining a group tour.

Day 1 : Arrive Osaka

Arrive in Osaka (either Itami or Kansai International Airport). Meet an English speaking assistant who will help you transfer to Shin Osaka. A second assistant will meet you there and take you to your accommodation. The rest of the day is free at your leisure.
Stay at Courtyard by Marriott Shin-Osaka Station or similar.

Day 2 : Osaka

After breakfast, meet your English speaking-guide, and start with a morning tour of Osaka, visiting Umeda Floating Garden Observatory, and Dotonbori. The tour will end at Dotonbori where you can enjoy Osaka’s cuisine. The rest of the day is free at your leisure.
Stay at Courtyard by Marriott Shin-Osaka Station or similar.

Day 3 : Osaka - Himeji - Okayama

Check out of your accommodation and make your way to Himeji by Shinkansen (bullet train), and visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Himeji Castle as part of a walking tour. After having lunch at a local restaurant, transfer to Okayama via Shinkansen (bullet train) and visit Korakuen Garden – one of Japan’s top rated gardens. Check in to your accommodation later – the rest of the day is then free at your leisure.
Stay at Mitsui Garden Hotel Okayama or similar.

Day 4 : Okayama - Naoshima - Okayama

Take a day trip to Naoshima, well known for its modern art. Enjoy lunch at Benesse House, and visit Chichu Art Museum and “Ie” (a traditional Japanese House). After the visit, return back to your accommodation in Okayama. The evening is then free at your leisure.
Stay at Mitsui Garden Hotel Okayama or similar.

Day 5 : Okayama - Kurashiki - Fukuyama

Check out of your accommodation. From Okayama, take the train to Kurashiki, visiting the Ohashi Family Residence (a traditional house of a wealthy merchant), and the Ohara Art Museum. Later, enjoy a stroll around the historical quarter of Bikan. Enjoy lunch on your own. Afterwards, transfer to Fukuyama (second largest city of Hiroshima prefecture) by local train. Make your way to your accommodation and check in. The rest of the day is then free at your leisure.
Stay at Vessel Fukuyama New Castle Hotel or similar.

Day 6 : Fukuyama - Okunojima - Osaki Kamijima

Check out of your accommodation. The tour will then start with a visit to Okunojima, otherwise known as rabbit island. The tour will visit the WWII Memorial Museum on the island, as well as enjoying the 700 rabbits that roam the island. Enjoy a “Washi” (japanese paper) making experience, before lunch at a local restaurant. Afterwards transfer to Omishima Island, famous for the Oyamazumi Shrine. After visiting the shrine, transfer to Osaki Kamijima Island by ferry, and check in to your Ryokan, where you can enjoy the onsen (public bath) and Japanese kaiseki cuisine.
Stay at Kinoe Onsen Hotel Seifukuan or similar.

Day 7 : Osaki Kamijima - Takehara - Hiroshima

Check out of your accommodation. Take the ferry to Honshu island, and visit Takehara city, known as the little Kyoto of Hiroshima. Visit a sake brewery, then enjoy free time for lunch. Later visit the Kumano Brush factory, famous for it’s high quality cosmetic brushes, before continuing on to Hiroshima. Check in to your accommodation. The evening is then free at your leisure.

Day 8 : Hiroshima - Miyajima - Hiroshima

Start the day with a visit to the Peace Memorial Park and Museum, in the centre of Hiroshima City. After, enjoy Hiroshima’s “Okonomiyaki” (described as a savour pancake) for lunch, then visit Miyajima, known for the famous ‘floating’ “Torii” (shrine gate). Upon return to your accommodation, the rest of the day is free at your leisure.
Stay at Hotel New Hiroden or similar.

Day 9 : Hiroshima - Kyoto

Check out of your accommodation, and transfer to Kyoto, the ancient capital of Japan. Visit Arashiyama by coach. Then enjoy lunch lunch before visiting Kinkakuji (aka The Golden Pavillion). Later, visit Ryoanji, the temple famous for its stone garden. Transfer to your accommodation afterwards, where you can spend the rest of the evening at your leisure.
Stay at El Inn Kyoto or similar.

Day 10 : Kyoto - Osaka for departure

This morning, check out of your accommodation, and transfer to Kansai International Airport or Itami for your departing flight.
