From £ 1,485 p/person
See the essentials of Japan – Tokyo, Hakone, Kyoto, Osaka and Hiroshima – on a great value 9-day tour. This group tour has many guaranteed departures during 2019.
Day 1 : Arrive Osaka
An English-speaking guide will meet you at Kansai International Airport (KIX) and assist you to board a transfer to your hotel in central Osaka.
Stay 2 nights at FP Hotels South-Namba.
Day 2 : Osaka - Nara - Osaka
After breakfast, join the excursion to Nara by coach with English-speaking guide. This former capital of Japan is famous for its Buddhist Temples: Todaiji Temple houses the Great Buddha (Daibutsu), the largest bronze Buddha in the world at nearly 15 metres tall. Visit Kasuga Shrine; this centre of Japan’s native Shinto religion was established in 768 CE. Take a walk through the Deer Park. Finally visit Kofukuji Temple with its 5-storey pagoda.
Day 3 : Osaka - Hiroshima
Today travel to Hiroshima, and visit the Atom Bomb Dome and the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum. In the afternoon, continue to Miyajima Ferry Port and take the short ferry ride to Miyajima Island, where picturesque Itsukushima Shrine sits at the water’s edge, its torii or ceremonial gate standing in the sea at high tide. End at the hotel in Hiroshima.
Stay 1 night at Hiroshima Tokyu REI Hotel
Day 4 : Hiroshima - Kyoto - Osaka
After breakfast take the Bullet train to Kyoto. Then take the local train to Fushimi Inari Shrine. Along with the thousands of red torii gates that snake up nearly 4 km along the mountain side, the shrine is well known for its many fox statues: foxes were believed to be messengers of Inari. Next, visit Yasaka Shrine and the Gion district, the ancient red light district where Maiko (apprentice Geisha) can occasionally be glimpsed in the streets. Return to Osaka for overnight.
Stay 2 nights at Shin Osaka Esaka Tokyu REI Hotel.
Day 5 : Osaka
Full day free at leisure to explore Osaka. Alternatively, Kobe and Himeji can be visited on a day trip on your own.
Day 6 : Osaka - Hakone
Please take an overnight bag to Hakone: your main baggage will be transported separately to Tokyo.
Travel by Bullet train to Hakone, in the Fuji-Hakone National Park not far from Mt.Fuji itself. Take the Owakudani Ropeway for views of Mt.Fuji in the distance (weather permitting). Then take a short cruise on Lake Ashi – where again Mt.Fuji is visible in the distance on a clear day.
Stay for 1 night at Sengokuhara Prince Hotel.
Enjoy traditional Japanese cuisine for dinner, and relax in the local hot springs.
Day 7 : Hakone - Tokyo
Take a train to Tokyo, and visit the Meiji Grand Shrine, amid the many trees of the Yoyogi Park which provide a solemn and peaceful haven away from the hustle and bustle of the city beyond the trees.
A short walk away of the shrine is Harajuku, with Takeshita Dori, a street lined with fashion shops and cafes catering for the youth market. See the famous “scramble crossing” at Shibuya, and go to Asakusa, where the Nakamise Arcade of shops lead up to the Asakusa Kannon Temple.
Stay 2 nights at Tobu Hotel Levant Tokyo.
Day 8 : Tokyo
Full day free at leisure.
Day 9 : Depart Tokyo
After breakfast and hotel checkout, take the “Airport Limousine” bus service to the airport for departure.
