Take a trip out of Kyoto to Fushimi, home of many sake breweries, and visit a sake museum. Visit the Fushimi Inari Taisha Shrine, famous for “senbon torii” (1,000 gateways), painted red. First and foremost, Inari is the god of rice. But since the earliest times, Inari was seen as the patron of business, and merchants and manufacturers have traditionally worshipped Inari. Each of the torii at Fushimi Inari Taisha is donated by a Japanese business. The torii are so close together that they form what resembles a tunnel leading all the way to the top of Mt. Inari. Worshippers making a visit to the shrine follow the winding four-kilometre-long path all the way to the top.
Since ancient times, Fushimi has been blessed with high quality spring water from the Momoyama hills, which is why sake breweries were set up here. Nearly 40 sake cellars still stand alongside a moat, and the area retains the atmosphere of the Edo Period (17th-19th century).

  • Take a stroll around the beautiful town of Fushimi, famous for its abundance of sake breweries
  • Enjoy a Japanese sake tasting session before touring the sake museum
  • Visit Fushimi-Inari Taisha Shrine, known for its 1,000 red torii gates
