Located in the fertile Honam plain in the west of Korea, Jeonju has been an important regional centre in Honam province for centuries. The city was regarded as the spiritual capital of the Joseon Dynasty (1392 – 1897), because the Yi royal family originated there.
The city lacks the manufacturing or heavy industries found in other Korean major cities. Today, Jeonju is more of a historic and traditional city.
