About Jeonju

Located in the fertile Honam plain in the west of Korea, Jeonju has been an important regional centre in Honam province for centuries. The city was regarded as the spiritual capital of the Joseon Dynasty (1392 – 1897), because the Yi royal family originated there.
The city lacks the manufacturing or heavy industries found in other Korean major cities. Today, Jeonju is more of a historic and traditional city.

  • Jeonju bibimbap, a traditional local food
  • Jeonju Hanok Village, a traditional-style village with over 800 "hanok" style buildings: many tea shops, souvenir shops and restaurants.
